Dress for Success
(Intermediair Starters)

November 2001

In the first edition of the Starters Café, organized in November 2001 by Intermediair in a packed hall of the famous Winkel van Sinkel in Utrecht, the theme of the evening was Dress for Success. The speakers:

  • YER-recruiter Ewout Bolhuis
  • Fashion- and colour-advisor Ada Nijman
  • Bas Possen, owner of Possen Fashion

In his speech Bolhuis indicated that still the first seven seconds are decisive in making up your opinion about somebody.

Nijman came loose in het presentation and added on top of this: "De first two seconds are about your looks. Two out of three people dress in colours that do not flatter them. Nine out of then compliments you get about your outfit, are because your outfit is not allright. You clothes draw the attention, not yourself. Be the boss over your outfit!"

Bas Possen on the other hand has a more relaxed approach and speaks to the young managers with a wink: "Never fully dressed without a smile. My advice for "casual friday"; wear a tailormade suit. En while you're at it, buy four at once, because then you look sharp all week. My tip for "Successful Suit Management": invest your first salary in two tailormade suits. Or four."
