Quote Restaurant Guide 2002

2002

For the Quote Restaurant Guide 2002 Bas Possen was invited to write a contribution on the combination between good made-to-measure suits, who wears such suits and where they wine and dine. Below some quotes from his contribution:

"Restaurant De Zwetheul, Rotterdamseweg 480, Delft, 010-4704166
The movers and shakers of Dutch business that dine here do not even know the word off-the-rack; tailormade suits of a Zegna Trofeo fabric or a Dormeuil vintage with a champagne coloured pinstripe, preferrably with buttons on the fly. Conservative lining colours with the name of the owner elegantly stitched in gold thread. No wannabees or wannahaves. At the correctly covered tables and the delicious dishes of chef Erik van Loo these gentlemen no longer need to talk about money and enjoy their dinner without their rambling cell phones."

"Restaurant Excelsior/Hotel de l’Europe, Nieuwe Doelenstraat 2 – 8, Amsterdam, 020-5311777
A place to be seen. The familiair faces from IPO’s, mergers, acquisitions and profit warnings, the icon for the old boys network. American tourists can borrow a jacket, because jackets obligatory, ties are not. You can only tie up your boat for a high tea with a reservation in the lounge. An own VIP-box at the Zandvoort race tracks for the fast business men. Stubbornly open buton-holes in the sleeves and heavy pinstripes set the tone for the heavily tailored made-to-measure suits. Masculine fabrics by Holland & Sherry and Scabal. The tailormade suit as dealmaker, an extra large inside pocket for the Financial Times, an extra lined inside pocket for the organizer, stitched seams and bright linings to impress and of course a monogram for late night identification of your jacket."

"Restaurant De Leuf, Dalstraat 2, Ubachsberg, 045-5750226
The best kept secret in the Province of Limburg. The magistrate, bankers and contractors in feast this eighteenth-century farmhouse upon the topdishes of chef Paul de Bunt. Of course in a relaxed cashmere tailormade jacket and woolen pants, both from Loro Piana fabrics, or even a tailormade corduroy sportscoat of a supple Zegna cashmere/cotton blend. After De Bunt has served his exquisite cheese assortment, the connaisseurs had back for their modest country houses in Belgium."
