Postbank-suits big success!

November 23, 2006 - Possen Projects

Coming friday December 15th, Possen Fashion and the Postbank will conclude a successful event. Graduate students that apply for the Postbank Talents Package before this date, have a chance to win 1 of 50 free tailor-made suits (for men and women)! Additionaly, everyone who registers will get a 40% discount on his or her first order of a tailor-made suit or shirt from Possen Fashion!!!

Already at this date we can conclude that the event is very successful. Many thousands of students applied for the Postbank Talents Package in the past weeks and the first 15 free tailor-made suits were given away in the Postbank-stand at the Nobiles Carreerdays (23rd and 24th of November) in the exhibition halls of Utrecht.

The nice and spacious Postbank-stand at the Nobiles fair had a central position and drew a lot of attention from the thousands of visiting students. In the booth Possen Fashion could use a stage with a fitting room, mirror and large table for displaying all fine fabrics. Together with a flashing host and active Postbank-mascot (the famous blue lion) resulted in enthusiastic responses. From all subscribing students at the fair, every hour a winner of a tailor-made suit was drawn that was measured and selected a fabric on the spot by the fashion consultants of Possen Fashion. We are very pleased to observe that all these dashing young talents can appreciate a cut-to-the-bone suit and shirt ...

The Postbank free suit event runs for one more week and given the fact that there are still 35 pieces to be given away, we urge all Dutch students to register for the Postbank Talents Package via www.postbank.nl.

Less is more!

Needless to say that Possen Made-to-Fashion, together with its weavers and ateliers, supports fair trade and ecological trademarks. We think you should only use what you need.

With water restrictions happening around the world, some clever advertising folk dreamt up this inventive ad campaign for US-based Denver Water to encourage people to become more aware of their water usage.

We love the unique applications - certainly more effective than your standard print ads.

Name your Porsche

October 5, 2006 - Cool stuff

We keep searching for cool customization initiatives and found a fun website - Name Your Porsche (www.nameyourporsche.com). You can actually choose any word to put in the original Porsche font onto your car.

You can now give your Porsche an exclusive personal touch. Instead of the type designation, you can have a customised text in the same font placed on your Porsche. Texts can be made for all 911 models - Cayenne - Boxster and Cayman. Your personalised text can be made in the same colours as the type designation, in grey or black, or ‘chrome’ or ‘gold’ if you prefer.

Just imagine having your girlfriend’s or boyfriend’s name on the back instead of Carrera 2, or the name of your dog, cat, horse or prime minister instead of Cayenne? No problem! Any conceivable name can be made to order…

All you need now is a Porsche ...

Talking customization!

September 25, 2006 - Cool stuff

Possen Made-to-Fit Fashion supports customization anytime anywhere ...

Every sneaker company has a customization program out there in one way or another - Nike iD, RBK Custom, Puma Mongolian Barbecue and the new performance customization of Adidas in their flagship stores. Most of these programs are definitely interesting and fun to play around with, but it's in most cases more about making a design statement.

Now we came across Prior2Lever (www.prior2lever.com). They offer the first fully customizable soccer shoe. Adidas already offers customized soccer shoes, where you can even choose a different size for both of your feet, but the footwear is matched-to-order. Prior2Lever does it the Possen-way and goes one step further. The football boot is uniquely designed for each individual player, using selective laser sintering to produce truly custom outsoles and hand crafted custom one-piece leather uppers. Just the way we like it!

The upper is made of exclusively sourced calfskin from Italy which can be manipulated using sophisticated technology to adapt color, appearance and function to the athlete's needs. The outsole is designed using a three dimensional scan of the individual's foot dimensions and unique walking/running style. The bespoke fit of the boot coupled with the hand crafted one-piece upper (negating uncomfortable seams and improving contact with the ball) make for an incredibly light design that preserves energy levels without forsaking protection and comfort.

There is one small problem however ... all this technology and service involved costs money - Prior2Lever shoes cost around 10,000 Euros! But that includes 4 pairs of the boot and changes to the boot if needed! Still it seems like this is clearly targeted at the professional soccer players!

The shoes do look great though!

Michelin starred restaurant Parkheuvel

August 4, 2006 - Culinary

Since this summer Possen Fashion is the exclusive supplier of wonderful tailormade suits for the hosts of the Michelin 3-starred toprestaurant Parkheuvel in Rotterdam!

Patron cuisinier Erik van Loo selected the style and expertise of Possen Fashion. And that makes a perfect match, because for many years already we are very impressed by the extraordinary art of cooking by Erik van Loo.

Last spring Erik van Loo took over from Cees Helder the famous restaurant Parkheuvel, that is situated in the beautiful park at the Euromast. Van Loo builds on the foundation of Helder. Of course with his own signature and thus this summer Parkheuvel was thoroughly renovated. And the result is magnificent! Parkheuvel is transformed into a toplocation of international class.

The tailormade suits for all hosts of Parkheuvel perfectly fit into the new interior. A deep chestnut brown fabric is chosen, combined with a Napels blue lining. Of course immaculately cut to the bone.

Several times a year Possen Fashion organizes for clients exclusive top events in restaurant Parkheuvel. There invitees quench themselves at the delicious and special dishes of Erik van Loo, taste rare topwines, listen to the stories of Italian masters of Ermenegildo Zegna and Loro Piana about the finest fabrics, enjoy a testdrive in beautiful topcars of Audi and enjoy special art objects.

For a small foretaste go to the Parkheuvel website.

Possen Fashion @ Polo Gstaad

July 24, 2006 - Travel

At the end of August the new spectacular fabric collections of our top weavers will arrive. Thus, for the fashion consultants of Possen Fashion it is time to pick up some vibes for fresh inspiration for the new season in a proper setting.

For us a proper setting means quality, style and beauty, with fine wine and dining, a healthy dose of sportivity and perhaps even a touch of machismo. The invitation for the Cartier Polo Gold Cup Gstaad in the beautiful Swiss mountains got to us just in time!

From 17th to 20th of August a delegation of Possen Fashion will attend to this prestigious event. As spectators mind you, because amongst the polo players there are the best worldwide (such as the Argentinians Matias McDonough and Milo Fernandez Araujo) and in that case we prefer to keep it to some downhill bikerides through green alpine meadows.

Rugged mouintain tops and spectacular panoramic views. Breezing poneys in full sprint. A glass of fine champagne surrounded by spattering mud. The gentlemen wearing a summercool tailor-made jacket. The ladies of course a hat (or better, a 'création de tête').

But work has to be done. In the evening at the gala-diner in the Cartier pavilion on the polo field we will perform a sharp inspection on fit and fabric choice of the handmade jackets of the leading industrialists as well as nobility from various European royal houses. Later that night we will join the polo players in the GreenGo Bar (Palace Hotel) for some more relaxing, but nevertheless undoubtedly robust digestives.

Of course we will report our experiences in Gstaad on this place (pictures included). Until then you can go to www.pologstaad.ch or listen to the stories of our fashion consultants, who think they are polo-experts already.

The perfect skinny-dip

July 10, 2006 - Gadgets

One of the great things about summer is a pool party and that usually means that you drop you tailormade linnen & cotton suit for a little moonlight skinny-dipping. Well, at the best pool parties it does, anyway.

Lighten things up a little with these sexy, funky, waterproof pool lamps from Spanish design gurus Metalarte. Watch them bob gently on the surface like ghostly standard lamps.

Designed by Hector Serrano, the lamps really are the shape of pools - and pool parties - to come, and available through selected design retailers. The rechargeable lamps are moulded from tough, waterproof polyethylene and cost around $450 each. Darkness would be cheaper but not half as cool or half as much fun.

Check out Metalarte's good-looking web site www.metalarte.com. For a Summer cool linnen & cotton tailormade suit or jacket, just contact us on +31 6 15 095 095 or through tailor@possen.com.

Hotel Everland

June 3, 2006 - Travel

When Swiss artists Sabina Lang and Daniel Baumann brain stormed to devise an art project that looked at the juxtapositioning of the public space and exclusivity they came up with this concept for design expo in 2002.

Today, situated on the rooftop of the museum for contemporary art in Leipzig, this one room self contained mini hotel caters for its guests in all the usual fashion. In house cable, wi-fi, deluxe bathroom, lavish breakfasts and even a mini cooper on loan with parking. It's portability means that when it leaves Liepzig it can land itself in Paris.

From June 2006 until August 5, 2007 you can take a peek at Hotel Everland during the opening times of the Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst.

Sistine Chapel Revisited

June 2, 2006 - Culture

Is there no stopping Adidas and the world cup?

On the ceiling of the Central train station in Cologne, Germany, sits a work of art reminiscent of the sistine chapel. A wonderful soccer fresco sponsored by Adidas. Michelangelo would be proud.

Although Puma sponsors 12 ( ! ) qualifiers for the tournament (Czech Republic, Poland, Ghana, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Switzerland, Italy, Togo, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Angola and Paraguay), only the Italian team reached to the quarter finals.

The flamboyant Italians however play in a sexy new away kit designed in collaboration with fashion designer Neil Barrett, who has worked with Prada and Gucci. Their beautiful kit has one unpleasant association ... it made its debut in Italy's 3-1 win from the Dutch team in Amsterdam on 12 November 2005.

We just worry about one thing ... many of the coaches of the soccer teams look like they get their wardrobe at the second-hand store (no, it's not vintage). With a worldwide audience of millions all they need is a well-fitting tailor-made suit. Can someone please make them call +31 6 15 095 095 or send an email to tailor@possen.com?

The mini-me of a tailormade suit

May 29, 2006 - Accessories

It's the mini-me of tailormade suits, in the form of a bag. Designer Edson Raup, has ingeniously recycled the everyday business suit purchased from thrift shops and given it new life.

The suit remains transform themselves into a very hip looking unisex shoulder bag which is both very user friendly and hard wearing. An added funky feature is the shoulder strap made from a car seat belt. It's recyclable fashion at its best.

We wonder what Edson Raup can do for our customers that order a tailormade suit from our wonderful fabric collection with over 5,000 different top quality fabrics from the most renown European weavers like Loro Piana, Ermenegildo Zegna, Barberis Canonico, Cerruti, Holland & Sherry and Dormeuil?

We got plenty of fabric available for a matching suitbag ...

Topless Mini Cooper

May 26, 2006 - Cool stuff

Feel like running around topless without getting arrested?

Then this animated Mini Cooper Cabrio has the answer. This version of the Mini Cooper has been aesthetically enhanced by Sydney artist and illustrator Andrew Georgiou (www.mrgisby.com), who’s collection of home grown, twisted comic characters have made their mark in Australia, U.K and the U.S in recent months.

We like it! Especially since one of our own Possen Fashion company cars is a completely renovated bright orange classic 1978 Mini Cooper stationcar. Of course with a chestnut dashboard and racing seats embroided with our company logo. We use our beautiful orange car for the delivery of our tailormade suits and shirts in the South of the Netherlands and gladly show it to you on one of our visits.

Paul Smith Soccer Ball

May 23, 2006 - Gadgets

The Soccer World-Cup 2006 is getting very close and therefore of course more and more soccer related and redundant products are also coming up.

Next to some beautiful Royal Orange tailormade suits we delivered to some of our clients, now much to our surprise also Paul Smith, the most popular english fashion designer presents his soccer collection. He designed soccer balls, jerseys, wallets and a lot more.

We especially like his designer soccer balls ... too fashionable to kick (available in all Paul Smith stores).

The Ultimate Pinstripe

May 8, 2006 - Fashion

Summer starts slow in Holland this year. On these days too cold and wet our thoughts wander off to Scotland ... inevitable this leads us to our top weaver from this rough country ... bespoke weaving by Holland & Sherry.

Our thoughts go back to some years ago when all the fashion consultants of Possen Fashion visited the in 1827 founded fine weaving mill English Oak in the little town of Huddersfield, for many years owned by Holland & Sherry.

Time stood still in this place. Between the beautiful enormous ancient looms, that indeed look like they have served more than a 100 years, the heritage and expertise of craftsmen is used to produce the most beautiful and luxurious fabrics for our bespoke suits.

Despite the rough whisky tasting of the night before in the old town of Edinburgh, our fashion consultants completely revived when seeing the rare and ultrafine fibres that are here woven by Holland & Sherry into luxurious limited edition collections. Fabrics that are so unique, that often only just enough for one cut-to-the-bone tailormade suit is woven ... craftsmanship by Holland & Sherry.

Today we want to tell you about the most special item from this unique weaving mill ... the 'Signature Collection' by Holland & Sherry ... the ultimate 'want' product for the man who has everything. Ultrafine 9/10 oz Tasmania Super 140's Worsted wool with Cashmere, woven with the owner's name in full repeated down each stripe. Only a yarn as indulgent and fine as the Tasmania Super 140's with cashmere will allow the silk lettering to be clearly visible at close range, whilst having the appearance of a muted stripe from a short distance.

Each 'Signature' length takes several weeks to produce. Made by hand, using impressive weaving techniques that have remained substantially unchanged since the early 1800's and only a handful of craftsmen worlwide have mastered.

The summer can wait, it will come anyway eventually. Let us now dream some more of this 'Signature Collection' of Holland & Sherry. Please do not hesitate to contact us. We gladly share our dreams with you and tell you all about the complex weaving process, the two old Jacquard looms renovated for this work and about Tony Addison, Holland & Sherry's chief designer, who examins each inch of finished cloth before it is despatched to us ... the Holland & Sherry 'Signature' length has now been "London Shrunk" and is ready for tailoring.

Like to play games?

April 14, 2006 - Gadgets

We enjoy a warm relationshop with the prestigious Italian house of Loro Piana. This top weaver surprises us time by time and recently the family Loro Piana presented to us a very special backgammon box, the favorite game of our fashion consultants (do not hesitate to challenge them for a game).

Inspired by the 17th-century Venetian game “gioco dello sbaraglino”, Loro Piana has reproduced the design of the original board on precious cashmere, transforming the Backgammon throws into an “objet d’art”.

Loro Piana applied its cashmere to the classics of all board games: chess, backgammon and the Goose game (and also designed some lovely suede-bordered delicately woven cashmere reproductions of polo and regatta scenes).

Each game box and all playing pieces are hand made in the best cabinet-making tradition from the finest woods: cypress, maple, pear, walnut, mahogany and cedar. And what do you do with the board itself when you are the best fabric weaver in the world? Right, you weave printed cashmere throws with suede borders.

Cashmere is a rare and precious fiber with extraordinary traits. It is obtained exclusively from the fleece of the Hyrcus goat, native to the mountainous regions of Asia and now present mainly in Northern China, Mongolia, Iran and Afghanistan. The wool is harmlessly obtained by delicately combing by hand 100 to 200 grams each year from the belly of the goat. To be able to weave one boardgame at least 10 combing sessions are needed. An extremely time-consuming process, but nowhere in the world a more soft and fine wool can be found.

The true connoisseur surely can appreciate these board games. A valuable gift for your business partner, good friend, family member or of course your sweetheart. Please do not hesitate to contact us.

Rug out of 18 Merino Sheep

March 28, 2006 - Cool stuff

Earlier on in this Lifestyle News of Possen Fashion we lectured a little bit about the fine animals that bring us the best wool in the world: Merino Sheep (also see the item below in this list).

But did you ever seen a rug handknitted from the wool of 18 Merino sheep?

We neither.

But we love these fine fine animals, because every season they bring us a wonderful collection of high-quality fabrics from our top weavers.

And a handknitted rug from the wool of 18 Merino sheep ... show it!

A Merino expert pointed out the website www.theseflocks.com to us. And what a wonderful small website this is!

Amongst others it tells about the summer of 2005 when in a small village in Wales, a small flock of Merino sheep was shawn. Each garment in the collection called FLOCKS (first collection of Christien Meindertsma) was produced from the wool of just one of these sheep, continuing until the wool was finished.

And it also shows this wonderful enormous unique rug.

Check out www.theseflocks.com and learn how to shear a Merino sheep, how to spin its wool and how to knit.

No more stains!

March 2, 2006 - Fashion

A revolutionary innovation by the Italian top weaver Ermenegildo Zegna! A beautiful top-quality superfine Australian wool that is completely spot resistant!!

We have tested it ourselves and witnessed that these Zegna fabrics are resistant against spots from water, coffee, red wine, ketchup, honey and grease. For the sake of this test we also offered a bottle of Dom Perignon (see image) and also no spots. It is truly an amazing discovery ...

Note however that we did not perform the so-called Bill Clinton test (remember the persistent stains on Monica Lewinsky's dress).

This nice innovation by the research team of Ermenegildo Zegna is brought to the market under the name 'High Performance Micronspere'. Through a nanotechnology process the surface of the fabric becomes like the one of Lotus leaves that simply rejects dirt particles.

The High Perfomance fabrics of Ermenegildo Zegna already are world famous for their extraordinary crease-resistant ability and therefore popular with customers that travel a lot by airplane and car. The special Micronspere fabrics stay spot-resistent also after many dry cleaning sessions.

Make an appointment via this website or send an email to tailor@possen.com to see and feel these wonderful fabrics. You can also call us on +31 6 15 095 095.

And of course to do the spot tests yourself ...

Schi Blitz!

February 10, 2006 - Cool stuff

The past decades millions of Europeans learned how to ski. Ski pistes get more spectacular every season. But also more crowded. And since we all look for the challenge to run the highest and most spectacular pistes as fast as possible, it is wise to wear a ski helmet. But of course, as always, in style.

Finally, after years of using ski helmets designed for polar bears and ski jumpers, we now found the address for spectacular ski helmets. This is a must have.

Better be safe than sorry. Check out http://www.indigosnow.de/

The Return of the Dandy

January 25, 2006 - Fashion

For years now we claim in our style guide that the dandy-look in tailormade suits never disappeared. In the past years the Brittania-lovers amongst our clientele naturally stood by their high, narrow pants, with perfectly fitting tailormade jackets, their deep purple velvet tailormade suits, their tailormade dinner jackets, their lavishly tweed 3-piece suits. Deliciously dandy, with pipe, silk handkerchief and festive tie and therefore included in the Possen Style Guide.

But now the experts say the dandy-look is back in fashion. Even a renowned Dutch newspaper in the past weekend wrote that the British dandy-style sets the tone. Who cares? In the Possen-collection the dandy-style never was gone and as always there is a choice out of countless suitable dandy-qualities. We just love it!

The upper Briton Beau Brummel, the English flamboyant 19th-century writer Charles Dickens, the 19th-century poet, dandy and adventurer Lord Byron and also the in 1972 deceased Duke of Windsor are the inspirators for the true dandy. Beau Brummel claimed that he needed 5 hours per day to dress himself and had his boots polished with champagne. Five hours seems extravagant to us (after all one also has to work for being able to pay for those tailormade suits), but we like the polishing with champagne!

According to the dandies in our clientele the Brittania fashion might rule, it never may be pinned up. Just a delicately sharp edge here and there keeps it vivid and exciting and leaves room for a personal touch. And who are we to oppose this.

A dandy tailormade suit ... each man should have one in his collection. And if this does not suit a man ... then he'd better choose a style that fits him indeed:

Blue Blood Denim

January 12, 2006 - Accessories

Of course we are pleased with the trend that man and woman also attach importance to their looks in their leisure time. It is therefore that we continuously search for nice and sporty fabrics for sexy tailormade jackets and shirts that combine perfectly with jeans, sneakers, sweatshirts and t-shirts.

But we must always stay in style!

Now we found a denim label that perfectly matches your cut-to-the-bone bamboo/cotton tailormade sportsjacket from Possen Fashion: Blue Blood. A luxury jeans made in Holland!

Thanks to the superior tailoring and a fastidious use of detail, Blue Blood is to denim what Savile Row is to suits. The brand is an exercise in New Luxury: attention to detail; vintage skills combined with innovative techniques, quality fabrics (Japanses denim) and haberdasheries.

Most important to us however is the excellent fit of the jeans. A fit that perfectly matches your tailormade and personalized jacket and shirt. The Blue Blood jeans are cut from hand-made paper patterns and they pay a lot of attention to the fits, as well as the drape and hand feel of the fabrics. Blue Blood combines innovative styling and vintage tailoring skills to get the desired look.

Tip for your beach outfit of 2006: a luridly colored linnen or cotton tailormade sportsjacket with patch pockets and sea blue linnen tailormade shirt made by Possen Fashion combined with a white Blue Blood jeans.

January 9, 2006 - Accessories

Brora is an idyllic village in Northern Scotland. The village is known for its most authentic golfcourse (maintained by cows), the whisky distilleries and its extraordinary fine cashmere products! And just like an open fire and hot chocolate, in our opinion also a cashmere sweater belongs to our cold, wet winters. A must have next to your collection tailormade suits.

Cashmere is a very luxurious, warm and soft wool from the rough highlands of Mongolia. China, Iran and Afghanistan. Annually worldwide approximately 6.500 tons of pure cashmere is harvested, of which Brora processes the best part in the renowned weaving mills in the town of Hawick, where especially the soft water from the Tiviot river is very important for the superb quality. The Hawick washing, weaving and finishing knows more than 23 quality checks to achieve the exclusive "Made in Scotland" label. Always look for this label and please ignore the nearly endless number of suppliers of inferior cashmere products.

Recently Brora opened a new flagshipstore in Knightsbridge London. For us a reason to present their products and website here. The customer service of Brora is good, orders are delivered fast and in case of a disappointment Brora accepts returned products without a problem. Definitely worthwile giving it a try!
