After 30 years as a traditionel men's outfitter, in 1999 Possen shows the fashion industry that innovation and automation aimed at affordable and fast personalisation and tailor-made products of the highest quality is not a futuristic idea, but a reality in which every individual customer can be served. In 1999 the industry was unwilling to invest in innovative production-on-demand techniques and more or less arrogantly disregarded the Possen concept. Why? Because of course off-the-rack garments mass-produced in low-cost countries are more lucrative and is a simple process than compared to individual production-on-demand for unique customers.
Possen proves this is not true.
The thousands of customers of Possen show that there is a big demand for a good fitting and affordable suit or shirt in a model and fabric that is chosen by the individual customer. A suit or shirt that is personalised with unique options by the person who has to wear it every day. Seems logic. With the growing number of customers and the successful supply chain innovation, the fashion industry gradually changed its opinion and together with Possen started investing in tools for personalisation and high-quality made-to-measure. Since then many manufacturers and retailers adopt this so-called mass-customization concept and there is growing number of retailers that offer high-quality made-to-measure fashion products to individual customers against affordable prices.
We believe this is only the beginning of a new sustainable way of thinking in the fashion industry that truly centralizes the individual customer.
