Pitti Uomo Summer 2008
In june our fashion consultants visited the 74th edition of the men´s fashion fair: Pitti Uomo in Florence, the semi-annual meeting place for the big brands, master tailors and exclusive retailers. Together with the weavers and tailors of Possen they discussed the trends and new fabrics for the upcoming autumn and winter season.
In the spectacular setting of old city fortress Fortezza di Basso 688 fashion companies and 840 fashion brands presented the latest trends and the Possen-team had fascinating meetings with many old friends. This time the new layout of the fair was inspired on nature and soft mobility. This explained the presentation of custom-made Carraro-bikes (as a symbol for mobility), especially designed for the fair in a limited edition.
Despite the restless economic situation, this time the fair also had many scoops. Pume showed the world Mihara Yasuhiro´s Dress for Playstation3 (new fashion software developed by Sony). Italia Independent, the label of Lapo Elkann, launched the new collection Sundek, a retrospective dedicated to the world of surfing, and Adidas together with Porsche and Lee organized an event to promote their brand.
As for our made-to-measure products, next autumn will bring us subtle extensions to the fabrics to choose for your new tailormade suit and shirt as additions to your personal collection. Refined variations to the business outfit are the trend for the upcoming season. A mid-grey or easy-brown soft flannel with a distinguished stipe or check, a soft merino wool & cashmere quality in midnight blue together with an everlasting tweed or donegal sportscoat for casual friday.
Also in the next season nice personal details such as a distinguished all satin lining (from oriental patterns to tiger print) and a bright coloured melton (underside collar) continue to be your perfect finishing touch to your tailormade suit. Rejoice over the compliments you will get when you turn up your collar at the first snow and the bright red melton shows.
As for our stay in Florence as always we enjoyed being the guests of Loro Piana in the magnificent Excelsior hotel at the Piazza Ognissanti at the Arno rivier. Of course with a Ponte Vecchio view. In the heat of the European soccer championships it was here the Possen-team had an unexpected and rare, but very inspiring meeting with the 75-year old Ciro Paone, a living legend and founder of the world famous House of Kiton. In 60 years Mr. Paone managed to built his company to a worldwide example of craftsmanship, style and quality.
