Champagne. Reims. Gerard Boyer!

A top weekend, only a few hours away.

Reims, the city that honors Joan of Arc (the virgin of Orléans), the city of the wonderful cathedral with the remarkable history, the city of Champagne. We have nothing to add to all the beautiful words dedicated to this nectar of the gods. We want to see, feel and taste Champagne! Thus, it is time to go down to this city and its special surroundings to promenade in our new cashmere/flannel wool winter suits and Tweed jackets on wintery lined pants.

In our continuing quest for the special, the appetizing, the beautiful and the moving things in life, we prefer the undiscovered, pure spots, dishes and things. This time however we chose pure luxury and booked an arrangement with a special destination in Reims, France; the stately and glorious hotel of Gerard Boyer "Les Crayeres" and restaurant of the same name crowned with two Michelin stars. Chef Didier Elena stands surely for a fantastic meal appropriate for the upcoming holiday season. Special joy is found in the overwhelming details and ambiance offered by the hotel and its hundred years old royal service as only cultivated in France. Outside the hotel you immediately find the Champagne. On the other side of the street there is the impressive house of Pommery, made famous by the notorious flaboyant Madamme de Pommery. After a year of hard work we prefer relaxed enjoyment and instead of a hectic excursion just cross the straat for some fine tasting.

Pommery organizes continuous tours that start in its impressive reception stuffed with extraordinary (and sometimes bizar) enormous art objects collected wordwide by Mme de Pommery (check out the painted army vehicle in the caste gardens).

Around Reims numerous vineyards and there you can search for your personal favorite champagne (there are more than 500 houses!). If you can spare a few days and like experiments, we recommend you tour the area tasting at a gamble to get to your list of favorites. Gerard Boyer however gladly arranges an excursion for you. Together with him you visit several houses, varying from the small organic house Ployez-Jacquemart, to the oldest existing Champagne house, the stately Ruinart (since 1729).

The Gourmet arrangement for two people costs € 729,- and offers you an exquisite 7-course meal, a night in a deluxe ´classic´ room, an extensive breakfast and a weekend that gives a perfect end to 2006!
